How to reset your service alert in your BMW F series
How to Reset Your BMW Brake Pad Service Alert
I recently got a brake pad service notification on my BMW, which typically shows up when there’s around 2,000 km of brake life remaining. This alert pops up on your iDrive screen, giving you a heads-up that it's time to replace the pads soon.
Once you’ve changed the front brake pads, here’s how you can reset the service reminder:
-
Press and hold the odometer (trip reset) button until the screen flashes to 0 km, then reverts to the previous mileage.
-
Continue holding the button for 10–15 seconds.
-
Release, then press it again to cycle through the service options.
-
When you reach the brake pad reset option, press the button to initiate the reset. A progress bar will appear.
-
After a few seconds, you’ll see a confirmation: Brake pad reset successful.
-
Head back to your iDrive menu, check the vehicle status, and the brake pad warning should now be cleared.
Pro Tip: These steps also work if you need to reset your engine oil service alert—just choose the appropriate option during step 4.
