How to Reset Your BMW Brake Pad Service Alert

I recently got a brake pad service notification on my BMW, which typically shows up when there’s around 2,000 km of brake life remaining. This alert pops up on your iDrive screen, giving you a heads-up that it's time to replace the pads soon.

Once you’ve changed the front brake pads, here’s how you can reset the service reminder:

  1. Press and hold the odometer (trip reset) button until the screen flashes to 0 km, then reverts to the previous mileage.

  2. Continue holding the button for 10–15 seconds.

  3. Release, then press it again to cycle through the service options.

  • When you reach the brake pad reset option, press the button to initiate the reset. A progress bar will appear.

  • After a few seconds, you’ll see a confirmation: Brake pad reset successful.

  1. Head back to your iDrive menu, check the vehicle status, and the brake pad warning should now be cleared.

Pro Tip: These steps also work if you need to reset your engine oil service alert—just choose the appropriate option during step 4.
